A step-by-step guide to do hair smoothening at home

Dealing with an unruly mane can be a big headache for anyone. While getting your hair straightened at the salon might seem like an easy way out, there are other ways to tackle this problem. It can be something as simple as a hair smoothening session, which is a popular means to smoothen out the frizzy hair and straighten those waves locks, which usually lasts for a couple of months to be precise. Hair smoothening also is known to improve the texture of your hair, and most people usually get it done at the salon, as nobody can do this job better than a professional. Almost every person is now choosing hair smoothening over hair straightening, granting that hair smoothening cause lesser damage and is long-lasting.
While most people get this treatment done at the salon, you can do it at your home by yourself, granted if you follow a few precautions and do everything carefully. We have created a step-by-step guide for you that will make it easier for you to do hair smoothening at home safely.

Prep your hair

First things first, before you move ahead with the whole smoothening procedure, you need to wash your hair using a shampoo with a mild formula. Just make sure that your shampoo doesn’t contain a lot of chemicals and instead consists of moisturizing and hydrating ingredients such as honey and oat milk. It won’t only help to repair any damage caused to your hair before but will also strengthen your tresses, which will automatically minimize the chances of hair breakage that might be caused during the process of hair smoothening. Also, do not use conditioner after washing your hair.

Blow-dry your hair

While you should always let your hair air dry, when it comes to hair smoothening, you should use a blow-dryer to get rid of every trace of moisture from your mane. This is one of the most important steps in the entire procedure; therefore, make sure you do it properly. You can also divide your hair into four sections for better results.

Apply the keratin solution

After ensuring that your hair has dried completely, apply the keratin solution to your hair using a masking brush. And don’t take a little amount of the solution; apply it generously to make sure that it has been applied to every strand. After applying the solution to each section, use a wide-toothed comb, and run it through your mane to distribute the keratin solution evenly. Keep the solution on for at least half an hour. You can also keep combing your hair every 10 minutes to prevent the keratin solution from coagulating.

Rinse off the keratin solution

After letting the keratin solution sit on your hair for about an hour, rinse it off with cold water. Don’t allow your hair to air dry, use a blow-dryer to dry your hair completely. Follow it up with a rejuvenating mask; let it sit on your hair for about 20 minutes by covering your hair with a shower cap. Rinse it off with cold water.
Flat iron your hair
Now the last and the final step is to flat iron your hair. It is the most crucial step of all; therefore, it needs to be done correctly. Run a blow-dryer through your hair and get rid of all traces of moisture. To seal in the goodness of the keratin solution, flat iron your hair. To get better results, divide your hair into different sections and flat iron each one of them at least 8 to 10 times. And voila! There you have your freshly smoothened hair, which looks healthy, lustrous, and straight.
