Skincare habits that could be damaging your skin

When it comes to skincare products, every woman judges the effectiveness of products on a different basis. Some women judge their effectiveness on the basis of their ability to make your skin feel calm and happy in an instant, and some judge their effectiveness on the basis of their ability to make your skin tingle or cause a burning sensation. Judging any skincare product on the basis of its ability to cause a tingling or burning sensation on the skin is just not the right way to make a judgment about the product. The burning or tingling sensation caused by a skincare product doesn’t always happen for a good reason, this could also mean that that particular product doesn’t suit your skin, and it is causing your skin to react, hence the burning sensation.

While occasional tingling sensations are still fine and quite common, experiencing a burning or tingling sensation every time after using a particular product is not a good sign. The regular use of such products can result in inflammation, dryness, and flakiness, thus it’s best to stop using them right away. Ahead, we have listed some skincare products that might cause your skin to tingle or burn.

Manual exfoliants

Exfoliation can do your skin a lot of good only if you are using the right exfoliant for the job. While chemical exfoliators like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acid do a wonderful job of buffing dead skin cells from the skin, they cause a tingling sensation on the skin that lasts for a couple of seconds only and fades away on its own. But when it comes to manual exfoliation, most face scrubs contain crushed walnut shells, grains, and microbeads, these ingredients can cause a burning sensation on the skin and may also trigger an allergic reaction, therefore, it’s best to stay away from them.

Face cleansing brush

If you consider yourself a skincare enthusiast, then you must already know that the skin on your face is much delicate than the rest of your body. You should treat the skin on your face very gently, and when it comes to cleansing, a face-cleansing brush can prove to be quite harsh for the delicate skin on your face if not used correctly. Instead of pressing the bristles of the brush too hard on your skin, you should keep it slightly far to avoid causing damage to your skin.

Alcohol toners

Most toners in the market contain alcohol, and alcohol isn’t necessarily a good ingredient for the skin. Apart from drying out your skin, alcohol also leads to breakouts. Women of all skin types should stay away from this ingredient; it can leave your skin irritated and also triggers an allergic reaction. Instead of using alcohol-based toners, you should use natural ones to avoid causing any damage to your skin. Rice water and raw milk are two of the best natural toners to use; they not only help hydrate your skin but also maintain the skin’s pH balance.

Anti-aging creams

Active ingredients can work some wonders for your skin, but one needs to use them carefully as too much of these ingredients can work against your skin. When it comes to your anti-aging creams, the majority of them contain retinoids, and while retinoids definitely help your skin in multiple ways, too much of this ingredient can cause a burning sensation on your skin and also results in redness and peeling. Instead of using retinoid-based anti-aging creams, you should use a regular moisturizer infused with glycerine and hyaluronic acid. You should avoid using anti-aging creams that contain active ingredients, no matter your skin type.
